Con Edison - New York City and Westchester County | New York - NY - Electric Rates and Plans

Viridian Energy is Currently active and enrolling customers in these Utility Markets:

The Viridian Energy Difference - Minimum 20% Renewable, Green Energy As part of our company mission, Viridian has chosen to exceed the green energy requirements in each state in which we operate. Each state mandates that every licensed electricity supplier obtain a percentage of its electricity load from renewable sources. The electricity you get through Viridian’s Everyday Green plan is 20% green, while most of our competitors merely meet the minimum state benchmark.

Simply by switching, the average residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month will reduce his or her carbon emissions by more than 1500 pounds which is the equivalent of planting about 100 trees or of about 2000 miles not driven. The choice is clear. For those wanting to do more, Viridian offers  customers the opportunity to go 100% green through our Pure Green rate plan,

Viridian Energy - Power With Purpose

Consolidated Edison Company of New York (Con Edison), a regulated utility, provides electric service in New York City (except for a small area of Queens), and most of Westchester County. We provide natural gas service in Manhattan, the Bronx, and parts of Queens and Westchester.

Con Edison also owns and operates the world’s largest district steam system, providing steam service in most of Manhattan. Con Edison is a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the nation’s largest investor-owned energy companies, with approximately $13 billion in annual revenue, and $36 billion in assets.

Con Edison is committed to supporting New York State’s competitive energy market. Through its PowerYourWay program, the company encourages customers to learn about other electric and natural gas companies — known as energy services companies (ESCOs) — and to compare the pricing options and services that they offer.

When a customer chooses to buy the energy their home or business uses through an ESCO, however, Con Edison still continues to deliver the electricity and gas, and responds if there is a service emergency.

RATES

Just like New Yorkers, Con Edison does things differently, including setting its rates. The utility rate in Con Edison changes every day based on the price of wholesale electricity in the three different zones that make up the territory. This means most Con Edison customers will have different rates, making it difficult to calculate one price to compare.

To figure out your rate with the utility, you can look at your most recent bill:

Or, you can use the average utility price of the past 30 days provided in the rate comparison chart below.

What does Viridian’s Rate Include?

Viridian’s rate is considered “all-in” which means it includes all components of electricity supply (energy, generation capacity and transmission) plus sales tax. The sales tax will show as a separate line item below the supply charges portion of the bill.

Everyday Green & New York RPS

Initially Viridian will only offer Everyday Green until Green-e Energy finalizes the certification for our 100% Pure Green plan product, which is expected next month.

New York state does not have a standard year-by-year Renewable Portfolio Standard like most states. Instead, New York is independently working towards a broader state goal of 30% by 2015.

Because there is no set standard for Viridian to use, the 20% renewable component to our Everyday Green product will be entirely voluntary, meaning that every customer will make a significant incremental impact by switching to Viridian.

Energy Choice in New York

In New York, third party suppliers are called “ESCOs”, which stands for Energy Service Companies. Con Edison, as stated on their website, encourages customers to compare prices and shop for energy to promote a competitive energy market.

Customers can also read about their ESCO options on SCO poweryourway.com or on the New York State Public Service Commission ESCO webpage.

Budget Billing (Level Payment Plan)

Customers on the Level Payment Plan (LPP) are eligible to enroll with Viridian. The customer’s monthly budgeted amount will remain the same after they switch to Viridian until the utility “trues-up” the customer’s billing on their quarterly reconciliation date. They will then issue the customer a credit for their Viridian savings and will also decide if the customer’s monthly budgeted supply amount should change. Customers should always direct all questions about budget billing to Con Edison.

New York is a great market with attractive rate offerings for our customers. Watch out, New York: Viridian is painting the Big Apple green!
