Viridian Energy Sets Industry Precedent with First Annual Sustainability Report

Green Energy Provider Helps Customers Avoid More than 46 Million Pounds of Carbon Emissions, Save $6.9 Million

Business Wire Viridian Energy Sets Industry Precedent with First Annual Sustainability ReportNORWALK, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Viridian Energy, a leading provider of affordable, green retail energy, today released the inaugural edition of its annual Sustainability Report. Among other key achievements, the report lauds Viridian’s total annual customer savings of nearly $7 million and prevention of more than 46 million pounds of carbon emissions after the company’s first full year of operations alone.

“It’s this commitment that defines us as a company and it’s a standard with which our customers and associates are proud to be aligned.”

A significant milestone in the company’s rapid development, Viridian’s Sustainability Report is part of the company’s stated mission to offer high-quality, affordable renewable energy to customers for a simple individual choice and greater collective impact on both the environment and the local economy.

“By simply choosing energy from higher-quality sources, our customers help create an increased demand for cleaner energy. Because Viridian sources its energy locally, this demand positively impacts the local economy while improving the environment,” said Michael Fallquist, founder and CEO, Viridian Energy. “This commitment to sustainability is the very core of what we do and what we stand for, and we are pleased to share the exciting collective impact of each Viridian customer and associate’s choice through this report.”

The report provides an in-depth description of the preceding year’s voluntary and mandatory renewable energy reporting in all of Viridian’s markets. The detailed portion features the specific local resource sites where the renewable energy is generated for Viridian’s entire portfolio of products, all of which contain a minimum of 20% renewable resources, showing the impact of renewable energy development on the local economy.

The report, which is not required by any industry regulations, is the first of its kind for a retail energy supplier and sets a precedent not only for the company, but for the entire green marketing industry. More broadly, it demonstrates the potential impact retail consumer demand can have on the development of renewable energy.

“In a world where so often the bar is lowered, we keep raising it. Across the board, we believe in holding ourselves to a higher standard – our products have a higher renewable content than is required, our renewable energy is from higher-quality sources, and this report is our voluntary commitment to greater accountability,” said Fallquist. “It’s this commitment that defines us as a company and it’s a standard with which our customers and associates are proud to be aligned.”

Beyond its fundamental product offering, Viridian’s sustainability mission is illustrated through interviews and the company’s local and global sustainability outreach projects. The interviews spotlight the stories of several independent sales associates who market the company’s product, as well as a conversation with Fallquist about how sustainability complements company profitability.
